Is it possible to break a wine bottle using a waiter-style corkscrew? When corks are hard to pull, it can be unnerving to apply the necessary leverage to just part of the bottle´s glass lip.
I won´t lie to youa€”when a cork is really wedged in (most often a synthetic cork), there can be some breakage, but it´s never that bad. The worst that´s happened to me is a small shard of glass might crack off of a wine´s lip, especially if the lip is one of those flanged ones, or you might hear a crunch and see a small crack. But it´s never been so bad as to break or ruin an entire bottle of wine. In fact, the biggest problem I´ve had is just holding on to the bottle tight enough so that it doesn´t slip through my hands. But maybe that´s just me.
