Today, Mitchelton winery celebrates 43 years since its establishment in 1969, the culmination of Australian wine industry stalwart and founding winemaker Colin Preece’s quest to “find the best site for premium wine grape growing anywhere in south eastern Australia.” The past four decades for Mitchelton have been about focused commitment to coaxing the most from its estate and key Central Victorian vineyards and working with the best suited varietals – especially Shiraz and Riesling – to make wines expressive of the region.
The iconic Mitchelton tower has panoramic 360˚ views of the vineyard and Goulburn River. The tower was designed by Melbourne Architect Ted Ashton and the construction completed in 1973. It remains a strong identifiable symbol of Mitchelton featuring on its logo as well as being a key attraction for tourism.
